Exerpts from the stories

Here are some exerpts from the already completed stories for the book. Still looking for a good title for the book. Any suggestions are welcome!

From "Movement Below the Soil"

"
At the seventh kilometre, we could start to feel a cool breeze coming from the mouth of the cave. It was such a torment to know that we were yet so painfully far from our only escape. Tears were smeared across my face as I forced my self to not rest. The rumbling had begun again, and this time with a sensation of pulsing urgency. The clay pictographs were occasionally flashed upon by the beams of our flashlights. As we reached the eighth kilometre, I pushed harder to keep my pace. I could see the etchings crumble severely as we ran by them. saw the clay pile like sand within an hour glass. Our time was running out as well. It was at this time my left foot awkwardly placed itself in front of my right foot and I tripped. I yelled for the others to keep running, and I would catch up. As I grasped the clay earth for support, my hand rested on a hard, wooden surface. My flashlight shined upon the feast bowl we had seen earlier. I do not know what instilled the desire to hold onto the wood implement, but I clutched it for dear life, and ran faster than ever before. For right behind me, I could hear the hissing growl, and the rumbling increase."

From "Beneath the Ice"

"
Another step and the moaning increased to an almost intolerable sound, as I could fell the ice below shift and swell. The vibrations and resonating tones left me with much concern as I trudged forward. Another step and the moaning decreased to a deafening silence. I finished my cigarette and tossed the butt into a nearby snowdrift. Another step and the ice howled with a booming bark, and I froze in my place. The sound echoed with a whine that sounded like the recordings of a great whale from the far off oceans. I turned and looked back in the direction of the sound in time to see a great wall of ice shatter upwards. I ran hard as chunks of the crystallized water rained down around me. Another boom and the ice before me split in two. I dove to my left and landed on a solid sheet. I stood up and scanned the chaos in time to see what would haunt my dreams for many a night. My mind felt as if it was unhinging at the sight of a thing that could not possibly exist in a rational world. It crept onto the neighbouring floe of ice and stared through my soul and froze my very presence into infinity. "

That's all for now. These stories, plus two more; "Awls and Axes", and "Dying for a Cigarette", plus "Dancer of the Raven Mask" and I'll have the book ready for publishing.

..now for just a title...
